What kind of fabric do you sell? We try to stick with natural fibers like cotton, linen and bamboo. We do have a small selection of laminated fabrics as well. We also love ORGANIC fabrics so you can expect to see more ORGANIC lines in the future. Most fabrics in our shop are referred to as "quilters cotton" which is woven with 100% cotton and printed with ink. These are considered light weight cottons and are used for a majority of sewing projects. We try our best to describe the weight and feel of our fabrics, but you may also refer to the more detailed descriptions below for further explanation.
canvas: durable, medium to heavyweight cotton fabric often used to make handbags and home decor items. Many of our Japanese fabrics are made from cotton/canvas.
broadcloth: often used in shirting, broadcloth is woven, lightweight and incredibly soft. Many of our Japanese fabrics are made from broadcloth.
double knit: (interlock) very durable yet just as soft as regular knits. It has a soft, smooth hand to it and looks the same on the front as it does as the back. Double knits also have a nice stretch to it which is why it is the fabric of choice when making baby and children's items or pajamas and lounge wear. We recommend using a serger to finish the hems when working with knit fabrics.
poplin: often used in apparel, poplin will be very similar to quilting cottons. Poplin is woven tighter which increases it's durability.
double gauze: is a sheer, light weight, lightly woven fabric which is quite similar to cheesecloth. Double gauze means that it looks the same on the back as it does on the front and it is unbelievably soft. It can be used for a variety of apparel items as well as blankets and baby apparel and bedding. The double gauze we carry is imported from Japan. A serger is also recommended when working with this fabric. We also suggest ordering 1/4 inch (atleast) beyond what your pattern recommends as this fabric can be tricky to work with and my unravel a bit while sewing. Once you become more experienced with double gauze, this will be less of an issue.
laminated or coated: printed cloth that is "coated" with plastic or vinyl in order to waterproof the fabric. Laminated fabrics are ideal for many kitchen items like table covers and coasters. They are also the fabric of choice when making baby items such as bibs, diaper bags and nappy covers.
linen: linen is a natural fiber that is stronger than cotton. There are heavy weight and light weight linens. There are also linen/cotton blends. Light weight linen blends tend to wrinkle easily. Linen is used for everything from apparel to upholstery, to napkins.
home dec: strong, durable fabric made from low luster fibers. Often used for upholstery and drapery items. Home decor fabrics are heavier than quilting cottons.
Is all of your fabric the same width? No. Fabric width will always be stated in the item description. However, most fabrics are 44/45 inches in width.
In what increments is your fabric sold? We sell our fabric by the half yard. We do have pre-packaged FAT QUARTER bundles in our "Fabric Sets" section.

I want to come visit your shop! Where are you located? The second we open up shop we would love to have you visit! But not yet. Baby steps!
I ordered an item/items and now you sent me an email saying it is out of stock. I'm totally bummed! What's up? One of these things probably happened: - Inventory is adjusted when items/items are paid for. Just having the items in your cart does not mean they are yours. Someone quicker can come in and swoop them up before you so don't leave them in your cart forever.
- We trust that the manufacturers tell us exactly how much is on the bolt. Sometimes they're wrong. But we don't know till we get to the end of the bolt. Unfortunately, by then it's too late.
- Often times, manufacturers mark the end or beginning of the bolt with a marker- a sharpie! This drives us crazy because they often end up writing on the pretty part (not the selvedge) of the fabric and we can't sell you marked fabric. But we do call and let them have it on your behalf- and ours!
- We made an uh-oh. This happens from time to time and we will try to make it up to you. Promise!
I ordered from you before and you really stuffed my flat rate envelope. That was awesome! Why did you stop? Well, we got "scolded" by our friends at the Post Office and we were told that we were too aggressive with our stuffing and we need to take it down a few notches. They actually started shipping orders back to us which means you don't get it as quickly as you should. This bums us out because it is subjective and depends solely on whether or not the flat rate envelope "police"are working that day. Sorry.
Do you offer bulk discounts? Yes. We offer 10% discounts on bolt orders (15 yards). This means one continuous cut of fabric. I heard something about a monthly drawing at The Fabric Bar? How do I get in on that? So glad you asked! Here's how it works: - Month starts first day of the month and ends at midnight (Pacific) last day of the month.
- Placing an order with us enters you in the drawing. No minimum purchase amount required! Only One entry per person.
- Each customer gets a number that correlates with their order.
- Number is chosen from a random numbers generator and posted on our blog the next day.
- The WINNER receives a $25 Gift Card to The Fabric Bar!
- Use your Gift Card on ANY regular priced item at The Fabric Bar. Can NOT be used towards shipping!
- NOTE: Purchase amount does NOT dictate the winner. We keep it fair and honest here!
